Tips to keep the wedding budget on track

Planning a wedding? Here are the best tips to stay on track with your wedding budget that will help you have your big day, without breaking the bank:

1. Establish your budget

The first step is to think about how much you can afford to pay for your wedding. Consider the number of guests – it can determine the type of venue that will suit your wedding best, and it’s also essential to determining the cost of food and liquor (typically, the biggest expenses, when it comes to weddings).

2. Choose the date and time wisely

You can still have your gorgeous wedding, without spending a fortune, if you’re smart about the date and time of the big day. Avoid highly sought-after seasons and days of the week. As a general rule, an evening reception is more expensive than a brunch or an afternoon event.

3. A handy guide about the crucial expenses

To help you organize your dream wedding on a budget, I’ve created a simple guide, using what I know from my experiences as a Warrenton, VA wedding planner. As a general rule, allocate 45-50% of your budget for venue and catering, 12% should go to photography and any videos you’d like done, the wedding dress and any accessories and make-up make another 9%. The rest should be spread across the music, rings, flowers, any favors and gifts, and transportation. The cake and décor usually take around 2% of your budget each. Try to be flexible with what you can cut down on – if it isn’t a deal breaker, find a cheaper alternative that will help you have the dream wedding you want, without breaking the bank!
