For couples seeking a refined, elevated wedding experience in the heart of Northern Virginia, Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner offers a polished setting designed for unforgettable celebrations.
Perfectly located with seamless access for local and out-of-town guests alike, the hotel’s ballroom and contemporary design create a versatile canvas for luxury weddings of all styles. From grand black-tie affairs to thoughtfully curated celebrations, this venue stands out for its scale, style, and impeccable service. Below, we’re sharing insights directly from the Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner team as they answer our questions and offer a closer look at what makes their venue truly exceptional.
We’ve been described as chic, modern, and ultra-contemporary. Our interior elements were carefully designed with the idea of “high fashion”, but our Regency Ballroom can fully transform to a couple’s vision.
Our maximum capacity is: 175 for Ceremony and Reception, 350 Comfortably, 384 Absolute Maximum for Reception Only
We’ve always been a venue for both social and corporate events since opening in 2015. Weekdays we host corporate functions, and shift on the weekends for social functions (wedding, bar/bat mitzvahs, birthday/graduation parties, baby showers, celebrations of life, etc.)
Hyatt as a whole was founded by Jay Pritzker in 1957 after purchasing a small motel adjacent to LAX and was built on the belief that hospitality brings people together with our powerful purpose of caring for people so they can be their best. Today, there over 1,450 hotels and all-inclusive resorts across 80 countries on six continents, with more than 30 global brands in the World of Hyatt portfolio.
The Regency Brand came to life in 1967 with Hyatt Regency Atlanta as the first, and Hyatt Regency Hong Kong becoming the first international location in 1969.
Our small but mighty event sales team consists of myself (Cristine Thomas), and two other event sales managers. We’re about to welcome someone new to the team mid- December and our other ESM Paul handles the small market with up to 10 guests. While he doesn’t get the opportunity to work with weddings directly, he did help in creating our Wedding Experience Guide and sees the behind the scenes operations.
Our culinary and banquet team also has a strong presence in making the magic happen. A majority of our event team has been at the hotel since opening, and have stayed.
I’ve been at the Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner since 2019, and in my current role since 2021 as the only Hyatt Wedding Specialist at the hotel, with only a small group of Hyatt employees worldwide who hold the specialist title. Ironically enough when I had the epiphany that I wanted to officially do events forever back around 2015, weddings were number one on my “absolutely want nothing to do with” list, but the wedding world was the easiest market to tap into and learn hands on experience. Fast forward to now, and I was crazy to think I wanted no part in weddings. There’s a lot that goes into weddings operational wise, and I thrive in the chaos of logistics and social connections.
Room reveals are our favorite after months of planning and seeing someone’s vision come to life in our Ballroom space. The hustle and bustle that happens prior to bringing the couple in to see the room is the best. There’re multiple departments in the hotel (housekeeping, front desk, engineering, security, etc). who come visit the Ballroom on event nights to peak and see what’s been transformed.
Apparently, we have the tallest ceilings in the Tysons Corner area, with unique lighting fixtures but the top reason couples book with us is our service. Right from the moment they send a inquiry and visit for a tour, they meet our team from our Director of Sales, Events, and Marketing, guest appearance from our General Manager and Food & Beverage Director, and a handful of team members along the way. Couples will also work with the same Event Sales Manager from initial inquiry all the way until the last moment of the wedding.
Our location also makes it convenient being in the heart of Tysons Corner Center with metro access to both Dulles International and Ronald Regan Washington National Airports. There are endless experiences guests can have without having to go far from shopping at Tysons Corner Center Mall, visiting Level 99 with social interactive gaming, catch a movie at AMC theaters in the mall, taking a quick ride over to Perch Putt for a rooftop mini golf course or Lucky Strike for bowling and arcade games, or hoping on the metro for DC site seeing. There’s hundreds of restaurants to cater to every cuisine and/or dietary restrictions.
We’re a one stop show for experiences both at the hotel, and around the area.
Our ceilings in our Ballroom, and that it’s the only event space on the 1st floor to give a real private event feel. Our other event space is Peach Grove, which couples love with it’s natural lighting and access to an outdoor terrace.
-Free event parking
-Catering options- while we have separate/exclusive menus for social celebrations, we can also start completely from scratch and menu engineer to a couples visions/taste buds. If an event needs 100% vegetarian menu, we can do that and not compromise on taste.
-Chivari chairs included in the package, with house linens/napkins, and dance floor (stage if needed)
-Room block options
Not a wedding memory, but one social memory was hosting a Bat Mitzvah for two sisters on New Year’s Eve. This was our largest group of teens we’ve hosted (130 teens and 120 adults), meaning our Ballroom was a consistent and constant state of excitement, where they ended the night with a double confetti cannons at midnight. Remember how I mentioned we have tall ceilings? These cannons were so large that confetti got stuck in our light fixtures, and ever since then we’ve instated certain policies/regulations. A majority of our polices exist because of some events I’ve hosted, which I’m proud of since this means the hotel will never forget me.
This event in particular was also my first big event with the hotel, with a little bit of pressure as initially the family contracted us because we were the only venue available on their date, but they didn’t like our Ballroom and needed a full custom menu to be 100% vegetarian. They were grandfather over to me after contracting with a previous ESM, and our first meet and greet happened while they already had a lot of doubt/fears in mind (and experienced a major family loss). There was a lot of emotion involved but after working with them and making sure they would love hosting with us by the end, both parents cried happy tears at the end of the night and have continued to refer their friends/family to host their celebrations with us.
We’ve worked hard to revamp our package offer and get our hotel out there again for weddings. We’ve built our Wedding Experience Guide from scratch, grown our social media following and connections with local vendors, activated a storefront on Zola. We’re always open to revamping our offer to remain competitive while having what couples look mostly for.
We have a guest room renovation scheduled this December, which means our event space renovation should be following after! May 2026 we have back to back weekends of weddings and social celebrations, which is a first for us (but hopefully not the last).
Find a venue you LOVE, and you love both Plan A, Plan B, Plan C. etc. Be open and honest on everything you’re looking for (even budget) and open to sharing with a venue what other offers you’ve been given if you’re seriously interested in a particular venue.
Second piece of advice (and highly important), hire a planner! Make room in the budget because this is a non-negotiable. No couple wants to “work” their own wedding and miss out on the event.
That we don’t have outdoor event space. We get couples who love the Ballroom but want to host a cocktail reception outside, only for us to disappoint them. While we don’t have outdoor event space, we do have outdoor “opportunities” from hosting a First Look on our terrace, Family/Wedding Portraits on the Penfed Plaza, or our “secret” wall that opens right to the front drive for a late night bite food truck option.
