LET'S FIND OUT
I’m so excited to share this beautiful venue with you. 48 Fields is a wedding venue located in Leesburg, VA, nested in Northern Virginia wine country but close enough to hotels and restaurants for you and your guests. 48 Fields wedding venue is a refined barn venue full of many elegant touches but still keeping the countryside feel.
I went earlier this year to tour the venue and immediately fell in love with all the details and beautiful décor. Kelly (one of the owners) was very welcoming and happily showed me around the fruits of their hard work over the past years.
The venue has a barn with two fully functional levels. The lower level can be used for an indoor ceremony, cocktail hour or just a small celebration. The upper level is the reception area with a capacity for up to 150 guests and beautifully decorated with cathedral ceilings, twinkle lights, chandeliers and wooden touches all around. They also offer multiple outdoor options for cocktail hour and ceremony.
For the couple and wedding party they have the farmhouse, fully equipped to offer the comfort they need while getting ready. The farmhouse has the perfect wrap around porch to relax before the big moment.
Their spaces are so flexible, you can choose what fits your needs best without compromising aesthetics. Another thing that I loved about this venue is that they offer 12 hours of rental, this gives plenty of time to get make up done, have vendors set up and clean up and for you to enjoy your reception.
I won’t spoil it all for you, Kelly (owner) answered some questions to share more about her and her venue in this blog post, so I’ll let her take it from here. Keep reading to hear from her, and then be sure to check out their website and follow her on Instagram for more!
Q: Who does your venue serve? Is there a type of client/wedding style you love working with the most?
A: As a barn venue, we have a more laid back and relaxed atmosphere than other styles of venues so we tend to attract couples with a similar personality. They are still intent on making their day thoughtful and memorable and are not afraid to invest in what is important to them. Or to bring in unique or fun elements to their day. Every couple is a little bit different, and we love seeing how each wedding day comes together to express the style and feel that reflects our couples.
Q: How many guests can your venue accommodate?
A: Up to 125 guests
Q: How did this venue become a wedding venue? When and why did you start working there?
A: We have a background in doing events. Kelly was a wedding photographer for 10 years and also worked in corporate event planning. Steve also did some event planning in his past work. We decided to find an investment property where we could combine our backgrounds and love working with others on one of the happiest days of their life. The property was not in good shape, but we saw lots of potential. Our first years were spent doing renovations and our first wedding was for friends of ours. From there, things started to grow and now we book up to capacity each year.
Q: Is there a story behind the venue’s history, name, and/or logo?
A: The property has seen many different uses over the years. The original farm house dates back to 1910 and the flagship barn goes back to around 1940. It was originally a dairy farm but the most recent use was for dog agility training. We found so many buried water bowls and dog toys as we were cleaning up in our first year! The property had been abandoned for many, many years before we purchased it, so a lot of renovation was needed to everything you see. As for the name, I wish we had a more thrilling story! We do have 48 acres of land, so that’s where we came up with the 48 Fields name.
Q: Do you have a team? If so, introduce them – including yourself! If not, share a little bit about you and your favorite things!
A: We have a great team working with us! My husband, Steve, and I are the owners and started off doing everything ourselves. As we grew though we quickly saw the need to bring in others to assist. We have a solid team of event assistants who help oversee things on wedding days. New for 2021 we have promoted a couple of our team members to become venue leads. They’re starting to have more of a client facing role to work more with couples in the final months leading up to the wedding when all those little details start to come together. It’s exciting to see our team take on new things and really put their all into every event!
Q: What sets your venue apart – what’s unique about it?
A: We are a great blend of old and new. We were an old dairy farm many years ago, so we have kept much of the original architecture, authenticity, charm, and character that people love. But through our renovations, we also have modern conveniences like heat and air conditioning, striking lighting, and level floors (so ladies in heels won’t trip on old floor boards). Our white barn is also appealing for weddings and our two separate, fully functional levels offer a lot of variety and flexibility throughout a wedding day.
Q: What do most of your couples say is the reason they fell in love with your venue?
A: We hear a lot of different reasons that couples fall in love with 48 Fields. Many are drawn to the peaceful and beautiful natural spaces. Others love the original, authentic architecture of the barn. The upper level of the barn with the cathedral ceilings and twinkle lights really brings the “wow” factor when people first enter.
Q: What are you most excited about for the future of your venue?
A: Like any project, it’s never done! We still have a long list of projects and upgrades we want to make in the coming years. Some are easier to accomplish, like enhanced landscaping. Others are more involved, like renovating our second cottage. Plans are already underway though to begin our apple orchard in the spring, so we’re excited to see that grow in the years ahead too!
Q: What are some of the best features included in your wedding day packages (e.g. outdoor ceremony location, bridal suite, includes valet parking, etc.)
A: We hear from couples that they appreciate how much we offer. Starting with a 12-hour rental, there’s a lot of time available on wedding days. We also open our farmhouse for getting ready and are happy that we can offer great spaces to both sides of a wedding party. Our barn is different that others in the area because we have two separate, fully-functional levels. It has allowed great flexibility to host different parts of a wedding day without having the cumbersome task of flipping a space while guests are trying to enjoy the celebrations. We also have several different outside spaces for ceremonies and cocktail hour gatherings too. On a more fun note, we have a collection of décor items that our couples are able to use to enhance the wedding. The boxwood champagne wall is my favorite piece!
Q: What’s your favorite story of a memorable moment that happened at your venue?
A: There are so many memorable moments! Some are heartfelt, others are funny or offbeat. Others (from our early days) have taught us what not to do! Every couple is different and so each wedding is a bit different too with its own personality. I love seeing how each couple makes their day their own. One brought in alpacas dressed in wedding attire. A few couples choose fun rock and roll music to walk down the aisle. We tried to convince one sky-diving groom to make his entrance that way for the ceremony, but the bride put her foot down against that one. As much as that would have been amazing to see, I don’t blame her objection to it! One moment hasn’t happened yet – but I hope one day does! – is for a surprise military homecoming. All those videos I’ve watched of military members returning as a surprise on wedding days always have me in tears, so I really hope I can witness that in person one day! (Got to the end to see the pic of the alpacas)
Q: What is one thing you want people to know about your venue?
A: We are in the business of celebrating love and we welcome anyone to celebrate their love story at 48 Fields. Every couple is unique and that’s what makes each wedding so wonderful!
Q: Any advice for brides that are looking for a venue?
A: I know it is exciting to get engaged and start wedding planning right away. I remember feeling the same way. But to make the best use of your time, please do think about what you like and what appeals to you. Also figure out a rough budget and draft an initial guest list. We hate seeing couples fall in love with a space that doesn’t fit their budget or can’t accommodate everyone they want to invite. You’ll save yourself time and effort to know these details before you start touring venues.
Q: Where can people follow you to learn more?
A: Our website has a lot of details about hosting a wedding with us at www.48fields.com. Our Instagram page at www.instagram.com/48fields shows the most up-to-date photos from recent weddings and wedding tips. We’ve just started a Tik Tok page at www.tiktok.com/@48fields with some more entertaining looks behind the scenes, but we’re still getting used to it as a new platform for us. Come check us out though!
Q: (If catering is on-site) – What’s the crowd favorite hors d’oeurvre guests keep coming back for more of at weddings?
A: We do not offer catering on site, but we also don’t have any exclusive catering vendors either. Couples are generally able to select the caterer they think will be best for their day.
