LET'S FIND OUT
Today we are featuring Maddy Williams Photography, a Virginia Wedding Photographer available to travel worldwide (how fun!)
I met Maddy during a wedding we did together. She was so wonderful to work with and the wedding pictures were a dream come true. In fact, her pictures are the ones that are all over my website 💕
Since I met her, I’ve been following Maddy Williams Photography on Instagram! She takes the most beautiful pictures and recently started a mentoring program for entrepreneurs that want to grow their business.
Maddy answered some questions to share more about her and her business in this blog post, so I’ll let her take it from here 💕 Keep reading to hear from her, and then be sure to check out her website and follow her on Instagram for more!
Q: What is your business name, and what service do you provide for your clients?
A: My business is Maddy Williams Photography and I’m a wedding and portrait photographer.
Q: Who does your business serve? Is there a type of client you love working with the most?
A: Although I offer all kind of portraits, I specialize in weddings and love working with engaged couples to capture their engagement and wedding day photos!
Q: How did you get started as an entrepreneur? When did you realize you were passionate about photography?
A: I became interested in photography in high school and started working for the school yearbook. A family friend saw all the photos I was sharing and asked if I would capture their wedding when I was just 16! It was the first wedding I ever shot and I really enjoyed it, but it would be about 3 more years before I photographed another one. About halfway through college I was photographing a lot of portraits and started to reach out to more seasoned photographers to shadow and assist them. After getting a little more experience I became really excited about wedding as a specialty and loved learning from these women about how they ran successful businesses. From there on out I was determined to build my own business!
Q: Is there a story behind your business name or logo?
A: No it’s just my name!
Q: Do you have a team? If so, introduce them – including yourself! If not, share a little bit about you and your favorite things!
A: I don’t have a team- it’s just me! I started my photography business five years ago while I was attending JMU (Go Dukes!) studying interactive design. After a few years of balancing photography as my side hustle with a 9 to 5 consulting job, I made it my full-time career last fall. When I’m not photographing or editing weddings, I’m probably cooking a new recipe with my fiancé Kyle or snuggling and watching the Office with our cat Squirrel. I love to travel so I’m always on the hunt for plane tickets to our next destination!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is warm and vibrant with a focus on editing true to life colors that will remain timeless through the years. I’m also focused on getting to know the couples that I work with so I’m intentionally posing them in a way that really reflects their personalities and relationship!
Q: How has it changed and evolved over time?
A: In the beginning my style was much bolder when I was learning how to edit. Over time it’s softened and become much more focused on true, life like colors.
Q: What is your favorite wedding that you have ever worked on?
A: I really do love all the weddings I work on! I don’t have a particular niche and really love the variety that each wedding day brings. One day I could be out at a vineyard or barn in Loudoun County, then the next week at a ballroom in D.C. They’re all so different which makes it a ton of fun!
One of my favorite weddings though was last fall at Shadow Creek in Purcellville, VA. The bride and groom had really put a ton of thought in to how to make the day a reflection of them and add in unique details. They opted for a bolder, jewel-toned color palette, worked in a small ode to their opposite musical tastes (Taylor Swift and 80s rock) into the seating chart and table names, had an autumn themed dessert bar, cigar bar and custom jean jackets. It was just cool to see how much they personalized the day and really made it their own! Plus they were just a bundle of joy and excitement the whole day which was just so much fun to work with!
Q: Where do you see your business in 5 years? What are you most excited about for the future of your business?
A: I love shooting weddings and can’t see myself stopping any time soon! I am excited to be expanding into other adventures as well though! I just recently launched an education portion to my business geared toward new creative small business owners and wedding industry professionals. My goal is to help others who are just starting out build their businesses through mentorship opportunities. I had so much help building my business over the years and I want to help others grow successful businesses as well!
I’m also gearing up to officially begin offering branding shoots to other small business owners. I really love working with other entreprenuers and capturing content for them so I’m working on building a branding service that let’s me dive deep with other businesses and create photographs that can be used in any way they need!
Q: What is one thing you want people to know about you and/or your business?
A: I really feel that it’s a privilege to be at each wedding day! Weddings are such a fun, unique event and it’s one of the few times you really get to bring all of your family and friends together. To be there with the couples I work with and all their loved ones is so special, and I always feel so lucky to be the one capturing it all.
Q: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
A: Definitely Thai food! I love spicy food and it’s always my go to when we order takeout!
Q: Where can people follow you to learn more?
